Holiday Happenings At the Barns of Rose Hill

FRIDAY DECEMBER 2 – “Caleb Klauder Country Band at The Barns of Rose Hill” 8:00 PM. $10 Admission.

Shepherds Ford Productions and The Barns of Rose Hill present: An evening of Country Music with the Caleb Klauder Country Band. With pedal steel, fiddles, mandolin, acoustic guitar, upright bass and drums, the Caleb Klauder Country Band captures the sounds of Honky Tonk, Old-Time, Cajun, and Western Swing. The Caleb Klauder Country Band features Caleb on vocals, guitar and mandolin; Ned Folkerth (Pinetop Seven, Lewi Longmire) plays drums; Paul Brainard (Richmond Fontaine) plays dobro, six string electric and steel guitar; Betse Ellis (The Wilders) plays fiddle and sings; Stephen “Sammy” Lind (Foghorn Stringband) plays fiddle and guitar and sings; Jesse Emerson (Amelia, Flatirons) plays the bass fiddle. SUNDAY DECEMBER 4 – “Barns of Rose Hill Holiday Concert Featuring Melissa and Dave Chavez from Shenandoah Conservatory & the Clarke County High School Chamber Choir”

5:30-7:00 pm. 10 dollars/person, children free. Group Discount available. Doors open at 5:00. The Barns’ 20011 Holiday Concert  (the first in the newly renovated barns-turned-culture and arts center) will include both classical and Christmas solos sung by Shenandoah Conservatory’s Melissa Chavez, accompanied on the piano by her husband, Dave Chavez. Additionally, we are delighted to announce that the show will be begin with a performance by Clarke County High School’s elite Chamber Choir, directed by Dr. Ryan Keebaugh. It promises to be a night of tremendous voices bringing classical and holiday songs to life! Melissa Jean Chávez, soprano, is equally at home on the concert and operatic stage.  Recent and upcoming opera roles include Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus (Victorian Lyric Opera Company), Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (Repertory Opera Theatre of Washington D.C.), and Adina in L’elisir d’amore (Repertory Opera Theatre of Washington D.C.). She also performed in several concerts in July 2011 as a soloist in Assisi, Italy with the Assisi Music Festival. Ms. Chávez is a winner of the 2011 Assisi Music Festival Competition, the 2010 and 2007 Bach-Handel Competition.

The Clarke County High School Chamber Choir is comprised of Clarke County’s most outstanding singers. This elite group specializes in madrigals, jazz, modern, and contemporary concert literature, both secular and sacred.  Since its inception in 2008, the Chamber Choir has toured area schools, churches, and civic groups throughout the Shenandoah Valley.  In the fall of 2010, the choir was invited to perform for the Bridgewater College Chorale, Concert Choir, and music faculty as a master class ensemble. From this exchange the choir was nominated to participate in the 2012 National Choir Festival in New York City which will include a four day performance tour of St. John the Divine, the United Nations Building, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and Lincoln Center Plaza.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 18 – “The Nutcracker, An Interactive Holiday Reading”

Sponsored by The Barns of Rose Hill, The Blue Ridge Studio for the Performing Arts, & The Clarke County Library. 2:00 PM This holiday classic will come to life with reader Mary Veilleux, the Sugar Plum Fairy, & more. Refreshments after the show. Free – donations welcome.
