340 Cigarette Outlet Robbery Results in Quick Arrest

At around noon today the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office received a report that an armed robbery had just occurred at the  340 Cigarette Outlet located north of Berryville at 3355 Lord Fairfax Highway (US Route 340). The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Berryville Town Police and Virginia State Police all dispatched units in response to the call.

The store clerk advised police that a white female with blond hair wearing a gray sweatshirt had just robbed the store. The suspect entered the store and requested two packs of cigarettes. As the store clerk began to ring up the purchase the suspect allegedly appeared to display a handgun through the pocket of her sweatshirt and demanded money from the cash register. The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect left the store.

The woman was last seen driving a red car north on US 340 towards West Virginia.

Approximately 15 minutes later the suspect vehicle was located  on Chapman Court off Lewisville Road in Jefferson County, West Virginia. Deputies from Clarke County and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Offices and Berryville Town Police officers located Heather Michelle Wilt, 28, of Ranson, West Virginia. Wilt was taken into custody by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for possession of stolen property.

The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office has obtained two warrants for Ms. Wilt; One warrant for robbery and a second warrant for use of a firearm in the commission of a robbery.

No injuries during the incident were reported.
