ArtScape Banner Call for Entry

Winchester, Va – The Shenandoah Arts Council and the Old Town Development Board are currently taking artist applications for the 4th annual ArtScape in Old Town banner program. The applications are due by Saturday, January 14, 2012, by 5 pm.

One may be five or ninety five and participate!  Children are encouraged to participate as well as emerging and professional artists.  The Call for Entry can be found on the Shenandoah Arts Council’s website at www.shenarts.org.  Artists do NOT have to be a resident of Winchester.  This community program is open to artists from around the region.  Artist may submit up to three pieces of art for jury consideration. The banners are vertically oriented so artwork should accordingly correspond; the image should be taller than wider.

Started in 2009, the Arts Council and the Old Town Development Board have collaborated on this “outdoor art gallery” experience for the Old Town walking mall.  The colorful, creative two-sided banners – each based on a piece of art – grace the downtown for eight months on the downtown light polls. Instead of seeing the same marketing banner over and over, our downtown region is beautified and more interesting, for residents and visitors alike.

Once the artist applications are received, a jury of professional artists will select the images to be used for the 2012 banners.  They will be produced and installed in time for the Apple Blossom’s Wine Festival in April and will remain up till the end of the year. Each banner displays the artist’s name as well as the banner’s corporate sponsor. If you or your business would be interested in this marketing opportunity, the Corporate sponsorship form is also located on the Council’s website.

If you are an artist or the parent of a young artist and you have questions, please contact Tracy Marlatt, executive director of the Shenandoah Arts Council at 540-667-5166.

If you are a business person interested in sponsoring a banner, please contact Karen Helm, executive director of the Old Town Development Board, at 540-722-7576.
