“Creating opportunities for our youth to engage in community” is the reason Catherine Burzio is spearheading a new Barns of Rose Hill exhibit.

Coinciding with Youth Art Month, the exhibit will feature local students’ artwork through March 17. Many of the budding young artists will be available at the opening reception on Sat., Mar. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free, and the public is invited and encouraged to attend.

“Beauty” is the theme. Students were asked to submit artwork keeping this subject in mind, along with a short description of what beauty means to them and how their artwork reflects this concept. Artwork includes photography, sculpture, painting, sketch and mixed media.

The show is a prelude to an upcoming exhibit entitled “Positive Exposure: The Spirit of Difference” which will be held Mar. 18 to May 12. In the Positive Exposure photographic exhibit, visitors will be challenged to redefine preconceived, universally accepted concepts of beauty.

Burzio, volunteer coordinator for the Barns, will be curator for the “Beauty” student art exhibit, assisted by junior curator Maxine Hauser.

“We have incredible talent in the youth of our area and I’m excited to have a venue like Barns of Rose Hill where we can showcase their work,” says Burzio.

Regular hours to see exhibits at the Barns are Fridays, noon to 3 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Sundays, 1 to 3 p.m.
