Loudoun Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the intersection of Sycolin Rd and Belmont Ridge Road for a reported two vehicle crash at approximately 7:00PM on Wednesday June 22.
Sixty year old Judith Johnson Massey, of Berryville was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer attempting to turn left from Belmont Ridge Road northbound onto Sycolin Road westbound after receiving a yellow traffic signal. At the same time twenty-five year old Graham Winner Parker of Leesburg was driving a 2009 BMW southbound in the right through lane. Parker entered the intersection just as the signal turned from green to yellow. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.
Massey, who was belted and the front airbags on the explorer did deploy, was airlifted to INOVA Fairfax Hospital where she is currently in stable condition. Parker, who had also been wearing his seatbelt and had a front airbag which did deploy, was ground transported to the Lansdowne Campus of INOVA Loudoun Hospital, then flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital where he is listed in critical condition (as of 06/22/11).
Police gathered reports from several witnesses who remained on the scene. As a result, Massey was charged with disregarding a traffic signal as she attempted to enter the intersection, from a stopped position, after the signal had changed.
