BRCTH provides high quality and effective therapeutic riding services to children and adults at our location in Clarke County. Since our pilot program in the summer of 2007, we have impacted the lives of more than two dozen children and adults with disabilities ranging from cerebral palsy to learning and intellectual disabilities, autism, visual impairment and Fragile X Syndrome. Two of these children, Tessa and Jack, just participated in the Annual Therapeutic Riding Assoc of VA (TRAV) Horse Show at the VA Horse Center where they each won blues in equitation and placed in all their other classes.
As a non-profit organization, BRCTH funds its operations through individual and corporate in-kind and monetary donations, civic and foundation grants, fundraising events and student tuition. 2010 has been particularly challenging financially as our equines have sustained injuries, requiring extensive and costly veterinary care. In all of 2009, veterinary expenses totaled $460, the cost of annual vaccinations and Coggins tests for four equines. Thus far in 2010, our total veterinary expenses are at $1750. If we also include having the horses’ teeth professionally floated, the total rises to $2038. We anticipate that treatment for injuries already sustained will cost BRCTH another three to four hundred dollars before the end of the year. It is imperative that our fall fundraising campaign, to include Flower Power and Sheetz coupon sales, Marriott Ranch package raffle ticket sales and especially our 4th Annual Benefit Marriott Trail Ride on October 24th, far exceeds that of 2009 or we will have real challenges supporting our therapy horses through the winter and sustaining the program into 2011.
We still have “saddles” available for the trail ride, so please consider joining us for a memorable ride and fabulous meal. If you are unable to do so, please consider becoming a trail ride sponsor, at any amount, and/or soliciting friends, relatives, colleagues and businesses you frequent to become sponsors. You may also choose to purchase Marriott Ranch “Cowboy Package” raffle tickets at $5 each or 5 for $20. The winner of this B&B overnight stay and trail ride for two will be drawn at the trail ride on October 24th, but there is still plenty of time to purchase the winning ticket!!! The gift certificate will be honored through June of 2011! And if you love flowers, especially spring blooming bulbs, you can go to www.flowerpowerfundraising.com until October 29th and place an order for high quality, 100% guaranteed plants and flowers. BRCTH earns 50% of all sales.
We hope you will consider lending your support to BRCTH in any way you can.
We wish you a wonderful fall and holiday season!
