The BROWS, also known as the Blue Ridge Outstanding Women’s Society, Rebecca Rice Clay, Anita VanSice, Paula Rose and Leslie Peterson, decided to do something a little different for the holidays this year. Instead of exchanging the gifts, the socially minded women decided that their holiday spending would be better used to help the community rather than being spent on presents.
“With so many wonderful local charities, we decided to pool together whatever monies that we would be spending on ‘stuff’ and make a donation to a local charity instead” said BROWS member Rebecca Rice Clay.
So this year the group of friends decided to stop exchanging gifts and select a charity to support instead.
So the BROWS pooled their holiday budgets and made what they described as a “noteworthy” donation to the Clarke County High School Jon VanSice Wresting Scholarship.
“We hope to continue these efforts in the years to come and donate to other local charities” added Clay.
