The Clarke County High School Class of 1960 held its 50th reunion the weekend of Saturday October 2 – 4 at Cacapon State Park Lodge in Berkley Springs, WV.
Classmates and guests played golf Friday and had dinner at the Lodge Restaurant Friday evening. On Saturday, another round of golf followed by a reception and cocktails at 5PM, and a delicious buffet dinner enjoyed by everyone in the Lodge. There were 41 classmates, one staff member Mrs. Margaret Cepelka Hench and 27 guests in attendance.
Gag gifts were presented to golfers Gene Ray Larrick, Richard Grim, Jim Pendleton and Guy Pidgeon. Gifts were also presented to Ray Racer for winning the Doo Wop Quiz, Rhoda Settle Pidgeon for traveling the farthest, Mary (Barr) and John Cox for being married the longest, and Dorothy (Boyd) and Sam Breeden for being the most recently married.
Table favors were Wine glasses (etched with “CCHS 50th 1960-2010″) compliments of Larry Meyers and Note Caddies imprinted with CCHS Class of ’60 & the Eagles Logo compliments of Mary Frances Kahle Beebout. Betty & Ray Racer composed and printed the reunion program and handbook.
Master of Ceremonies Gary Elsea thanked the reunion committee members, Mary Frances Kahle Beebout, Larry Meyers, Pat Kirby Cunningham, Doris Pyne Pendleton, Mary Barr Cox, Marty Reardon Proffitt, Betty Edens Racer, Priscilla McVay Gould, Linda Murphy Ashworth and Patsy Whetzel McFillen for their work in putting together a memorable 50th reunion. Also recognized were Richard Grim and Sandy & Gene Larrick for their help.
Many nice door prizes donated by class members were handed out.
Sunday morning classmates and guests gathered in the Lodge Restaurant for more reminiscing over breakfast. Classmates traveled from Florida, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Nevada, West Virginia and Virginia.
The Class of 1960 has held a reunion every five years since graduation and in 2001started holding a mini reunion every year between the five year reunions. There were 82 in the graduating class, 15 are deceased.
