Clarke County wrestlers traveled to Fishersville, VA Saturday for the Hornet Duals at Wilson Memorial High School.  The Eagles went a perfect 5-0 to win the tournament surprising district foe Strasburg and last year’s VHSL Single-A runner up Floyd County.  Central, Robert E. Lee, and Covington teams also fell to CCHS grapplers.  Brandon Hutchinson, Johnny Longerbeam, Ben Wallace, and Matt Thompson all went undefeated throughout the day.

The finals match-ups started at the 160 pound weight class led by Ben Wallace, pinning his way to victory, followed quickly with another fall scored by Matt Thompson at 170; after dropping the next two match-ups, Clarke’s 220 pound Levi Hagerdon pinned his man followed by heavyweight William Wallace scoring another CCHS pin. Clarke had two more losses until Brandon Hutchinson took the mat and pinned Strasburg’s 2x state finalist Lance Ford.  Peter Levi was the next Eagle to find victory with a pin with only 13 seconds remaining on the clock, bringing the Eagles to within two points of the Rams at 36-38 leaving it up to the last match of the night to decide team victory.  Johnny Longerbeam found personal triumph and guaranteed the team win as he pinned his opponent before a bleacher full of Clarke fans who had all come to their feet cheering.
