Public school officials in Clarke County, Virginia announced today a time and date for the long awaited new high school ground breaking ceremony. The ceremony will be held on July 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.in Berryville, VA

In a press release, Superintendent Michael Murphy stated, “This will be a community-wide celebration, and all students, staff, and residents of Clarke County and neighboring Northern Virginia are invited to attend.”

The event is being planned as a “BYOS” (Bring Your Own Shovel). Details will be forthcoming. Dr Murphy added, “It is important that each and every supporter of this long awaited new high school head for the garage or barn and workshop and find a shovel that you can bring with you… we are going to turn dirt together and celebrate our success!”

The School System extends a special thanks to Howard Shockey & Sons, Crabtree Rohrbaugh and Associates, and Gannett Fleming, Inc. for their corporate sponsorship.   Interested parties who wish to help sponsor this event should contact the Superintendent’s Office at 540.955.6100.

After years of wondering if my children ( 9 & 4 yrs. old) would ever see the halls of a new high school? It looks like this just might become reality? (notice the ?) Please don’t let us down now!

Keep the faith, FLY. After watching this odyssey for the last six years or so, I am encouraged that the T’s are crossed and the I’s are dotted. Granted, it was a sad and parasitic journey, but we are finally at a milestone. I can’t wait to fling some dirt!

This is truly an announcement long in coming, but welcome nonetheless. A lot of ink has been spilled over the past decade, condemning this person or that decision. Here’s hoping that, as the dirt is turned, that old pettiness and rancor can be buried in the process. Our children, our students, deserve the best we can give them, and we have a prime opportunity to get it right this time.

Thank you, Dr. Murphy and members of the School Board and CCPS administration, for getting us to this point.

They could sell these shovels along with other items of interest to help pay for the school or other needed supplies.

This date will inevitably be pushed back. They’ll disagree on where to exactly use those shovels to start ‘digging’.
