Christmas Decorations Mark Free Parking Tradition

Super-sized Christmas decorations are once again gracing the streets of Berryville as residents and businesses participate in the annual tradition of decorating parking meters. The decorations are part of an annual contest sponsored by Berryville Main Street, an organization that promotes   the commercial revitalization of downtown Berryville. The event began years ago after the town designated free parking for the holiday season.   As thanks, an anonymous individual decorated one parking meter and the idea evolved into the popular community event it is today.

Outlandish designs and wildly creative approaches highlight this years offerings. One participant constructed Christmas trees from green plastic bottles and the Barns of Rose Hill constructed a barn door from material removed from their ongoing renovation project.

The meters are judged by the Architectural Review Board of Berryville and the winners were announced over the weekend at the tree lighting ceremony in Berryville.

This year’s winners are:
Best Meter by a Business: Tie between Berryville Pharmacy and Sponseller’s Flowers
Best Berryville Theme: The Barns of Rose Hill
Best Meter by a Non-Business: Women’s Club of Clarke County
Best Keeping It Green: Rapture
Best Meter of All: Church of New Beginnings

Congratulations to the winners and a special thanks to everyone that participated. This annual event is a wonderful Berryville tradition.
