Clarke County Fair Week Begins

It’s that time of year again, when warm summer breezes carry the sweet smell of funnel cakes and cotton candy and the sounds of livestock underscore the squeals of delighted children on carnival rides. The Clarke County Fair begins this Sunday, August 8th and runs through Saturday August 14th.

This annual must attend event features the best agriculture, crafts, and family entertainment that Clarke County has to offer.   It also provides the entire community with the opportunity to connect with friends and neighbors as they stroll through the many animal exhibits and the carnival rides.

In it’s 54th year, the fair continues to be one of the county’s most cherished and celebrated events. The week long fair encompasses dozens of agricultural exhibits and competitions as well as entertainment ranging from concerts to favorites like pig scrambles and the demolition derby. Some stand-out highlights throughout the week include:

Sunday – Opening Ceremonies at 5:00PM – Celebrate the beginning of fair week with local officials and the Clarke County High School Band including a performance by the Blue Ridge Thunder Cloggers. Also don’t miss the Junior Miss Clarke County Fair Contest followed by Miss Clarke County Fair Scholarship Pageant.

Monday – 5:00 P.M. Enjoy Beef and Chicken Barbecue with special sauce prepared by Ruritan Club. Then let your dinner settle and enjoy the Little Miss Clarke County Fair Contest before you visit the R.C.   Cole carnival rides that open at 6:00PM. Also don’t miss the crowd favorite Pig Scrambles (Clarke County residents only) – 6 thru 8 year olds, and 9 thru 18 year olds, then the ladies.

Tuesday – The Figure 8 Demolition Derby starts at 7:00 P.M. Also don’t miss the Carnival Ride-All-Night dates. Tuesday, August 10th and Thursday August 12th wrist-bands will be available for $20 to ride all the carnival rides all night long.

Wednesday – Senior Citizen’s Day and Children’s Day – All adults (62 and over) and children (15 and under)
admitted FREE until 5:00 P.M. At 6:00 P.M. enjoy the songs of local music artist Amanda Mackintosh, then at 7:00PM watch the thundering Interstate Truck & Tractor Pull.

Thursday – Veteran’s Day -All Active Duty & Military Veterans Admitted Free All Day. At   8:00 P.M. Rock & Roll Night with The DooZees (formerly the Cruisers) at the fairground grandstand.   Don’t miss the second and final   Carnival Ride-All-Night.

Friday – At 5:30 P.M. the Special 4-H and F.F.A. Awards will be presented.   At 6:00 PM head over to the infield and check out the Lawn Mower Races. Friday nights big feature event starts at 8:00 P.M. when the   Bull Riding & Rodeo begins.

Saturday – Stop by early for the 3:30 P.M. Auto Demolition Derby. Enjoy reduced price rides at the carnival from 2-5 PM then hit the grandstand at 8:00PM for the much anticipated   Luke Bryan concert performance. Grandstand tickets are $20 and track seating is SOLD OUT.

    Is the chicken bbq just Monday evening, or is it offered all week?

    Parents, go to colerides.com for a free ride ticket. Volunteers (we thank you very much) print out a free ride coupn and present to any kid for mutual life satisfaction!

    Thursday says, all active duty and military veterans admitted free. Does that mean all who served? or just retired military with I.D cards?

  8. I loved the pig scramble! The ladies’ strategy seems to improve every year, dive on the pig!!!! It’s hilarious!
