Saturday will be busy with exciting holiday happenings. Start your day with two local holiday fairs.
At 9:00 AM visit the Millwood Community and enjoy an Old-Fashioned Christmas Fair at 1610 Millwood Road in the historic village of Millwood VA. Fair hours are from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday December 3 and from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday December 4. The fair is produced annually by the Millwood Community Association and The Goodwill Association, and benefits the community activities of the two associations.
Just a short trip down the road the Relay For Life of Clarke County will be hosting a Holiday Fair at Powhatan School. The fair opens at 9:00AM. Enjoy great holiday shopping and support the Relay For Life of Clarke County.
If you are feeling creative, spread some holiday cheer by making a wreath at the State Arboretum in Boyce. Gather with friends to create a natural holiday ornament made from fresh, natural greens and adornments. More Info
Things will be hopping in downtown Berryville. Catch some delicious treats at the Hout 4-H Club Bake Sale starting at 11:00 AM. Visit them in the Berryville Auto parking lot and help them raise funds for 4-H.
Then at noon the big man himself is rolling into town. Main Street in Berryville will close down for the annual Christmas Parade as Santa Clause is escorted into town. Afterward, Santa will visit with the children in the Bank of Clarke County.
Later in the day join the Mayor as he throws the switch on the Christmas Tree in Rose Hill Park. The tree lighting ceremony begins at 5:30 PM. Christmas music will be provided by our own Clarke County Community Band. Winners of the parking meter decorating contest will also be announced. Afterwards come see Santa Claus and enjoy some fresh homemade cookies.
Also on Saturday evening, enjoy the Northern Shenandoah Valley Sacred Harp & Shape Note Singers at St. Mary’s Parish Hall, in Berryville VA. Shape note singing is a non-denominational community, musical, and spiritual event emphasizing participation, not performance. The music is sung a cappella without harps or any other musical instrument. From Rt 340 and Main St (business Rt 7) go one block east on Main and two blocks north on Church St. Turn left at “T” at Grace Church and into parking area behind St. Mary’s. Enjoy a potluck dinner at 6 PM.
Close out the evening with a twilight tour of Long Branch decorated with the splendor of Christmas! View the 10-foot Christmas tree in the Grand Hall and the Formal Dining Room magnificently decorated each year by notable area designers and specialty shops. Enjoy the mansion’s rooms artistically enhanced with holiday greenery and beautiful floral arrangements created by area garden clubs. Cost is $10.00 and tours begin promptly at 6:00 PM.
On Sunday you will have a second chance to visit the Old-Fashioned Christmas Fair in Millwood, VA. Sunday hours are from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Later in the day, the Barns of Rose Hill will be full of holiday cheer with a Holiday Concert. The musical event will feature Melissa and Dave Chavez & the Clarke County High School Chamber Choir. The event runs from 5:30-7:00 pm. The cost is 10 dollars per person, children are free. Group discounts are also available. Doors open at 5:00 PM. The Barns’ 20011 Holiday Concert will include both classical and Christmas solos sung by Shenandoah Conservatory’s Melissa Chavez, accompanied on the piano by her husband, Dave Chavez. Additionally, we are delighted to announce that the show will be begin with a performance by Clarke County High School’s elite Chamber Choir, directed by Dr. Ryan Keebaugh. More info
