Clarke Man Injured in Single Car Accident

Traffic was closed on Longmarsh Road in Clarke County yesterday due to a serious single car accident. Twenty-three year old Daniel Hardesty   was seriously injured when his vehicle crashed into a power pole.

According to state police, the incident occurred at approx. 1:10PM.   Hardesty was traveling north on Longmarsh Road when he became distracted by a loose object in the truck cab which caused him to veer off the right side of the roadway where he struck a tree. The force of the impact caused the vehicle to roll across the roadway where it struck a utility pole and brought down the active power line. The pole struck the vehicle and Hardesty was shocked by the line.

The trooper on the scene reported that the victim had visible bruises and scrapes and was conscious. The victim was initially transported to Winchester Medical Center for treatment but was later transported to the burn unit at UVA hospital.

Police said speed was not a factor in the crash. Hardesty has been charged with reckless driving.
