Cheerleaders cheer for other athletes as they take to the fields and courts, but who cheers for the competition cheer squad at Clarke County High School? The whole community of course, and with the Eagle’s squad on their way to the regional finals we can all give a hearty cheer and support the outstanding group of athletes as they take the floor at East Rockingham this Saturday.

The team is led by coaches Melissa Astin and Heather Lewis. Ms. Astin described the results of the team’s recent performance that propelled them into regionals saying, “We placed 3rd at the district competition against 5 other schools!  We defeated William Monroe, Central, and George Mason. The CCHS cheerleaders have been practicing all season and are excited to be representing CCHS at East Rockingham on Saturday.”

Manassas Park took home the championship in the district competition and Strasburg finished second.

The Eagles will face stiff competition this year. At the 2010 VHSL Cheer Championships, Strasburg High School took home its third championship in Group A, and its second title in three years. With Manassas Park taking the district title this year, the field is packed with highly skilled teams.

The Regional competition will be held in two rounds. Each team’s routine must be a minimum of two minutes and 30 seconds and cannot exceed three minutes.  The music portion of the routine cannot exceed 90 seconds. Teams are judged using a scoring rubric that includes assessments of motions, jumps, tumbling, stunts, and dance. The scores from the first round determine which six teams will advance to the second round. The scores from the second round will then determine the four teams representing Region B in the 2011 State Cheerleading Competition on Saturday, November 12th @ the Seigel Center in Richmond.

The regional event will be held Saturday November 5th at East Rockingham High School in Elkton, VA. Doors open at 10:15 AM.
Go Eagles!!!!
