Johnson-Williams Cougars wrestled district foe Warren County Middle School in their first home match last night. A large and supportive crowd watched as AJ Merriman found the first win of the night, and his first career win at 80 pounds with a first period pin. Bayne Gordon followed right behind him with a third period pin while pummeling his opponent 20 – 5 for a tech-pin. Both Craig Genda and Colton Botts continued the streak with impressive first period falls. Jack Dale rallied the team and energized the fans wrestling at 119 pounds with a quick take down to a pin, followed by Joey Mainello and Brian Wallace’s first period pins.
J-WMS won seven matches by fall, scoring six team points each, for a total of 42 points, while giving up seven matches; five pins (30 points), one major decision (4 points) and one decision (3 points) for a head-to-head score of 42 – 37 before the forfeits factored in. After forfeiting five heavy weight classes (30 points) the Cougars fell 42-67.
