After a busy Saturday of holiday activities and events, residents of Clarke County gathered at Rose Hill Park to close out the day with the Berryville tree lighting ceremony. The annual event draws crowds of people who gather with friends and family to launch the holiday season with music and a visit from a far north resident.

The Clarke County Community Band provided musical accompaniment as Mayor Wilson Kirby officiated the event and welcomed everyone saying, “I hope that you have fun this Christmas season, that you catch the spirit of the season and the real true meaning of Christmas here in Berryville.”

Getting right down to business the mayor enlisted some assistance to help him throw the switch to illuminate the Christmas tree that stands just off of Main Street. “I’ve asked a friend of mine to join me at the tree lighting switch, my friend Olivia.” The young girl joined the mayor at the gazebo. As the crowd counted down the mayor and Olivia flipped the switch and illuminated the town tree followed by a spirited rendition of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” by the Community Band.
