The Felt was packed on both sides of the field last night as the Eagles took on the Warren County Wildcats in their first home game of the 2011 season. However, the hopes of home team fans were quickly dashed as the Eagles fell to the Wildcats in a 29-0 rout.
Clarke County struggled from the opening kickoff. An interception on the Eagle’s first drive resulted in Warren county’s first score. On the very next drive the Eagles fumbled the ball on the Wildcats 37 yard line. Five plays later, Warren County #15 Christopher Larsen caught a long pass and broke two tackles to add another touchdown in the first quarter.
The quick strikes put the Eagles on their heels and they were unable to mount a comeback. The Wildcats defense shutdown the Eagle’s offense holding them to only two first downs in the first half and three in the second.
On offense, Warren County #33 Gage Steele and #39 Timothy Green wreaked havoc on the Eagles. With 26 seconds left in the first half Steele punched in a third touchdown for the Wildcats pushing their first half total to 21.
Warren County took the ball in the second half and on their first play from scrimmage, #33 blazed 84 yards for their fourth touchdown. A botched snap on the PAT turned into a two-point conversion and the Wildcats capped off the scoring fest at 29.
Clarke County drops to 1-1 on the season.
The Eagles begin a four week string of away games next week against Stonewall Jackson. Kickoff in Quicksburg, VA is at 7:00PM.
