Monday was a banner day for soccer in Clarke County. Both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams pulled off overtime victories to advance in the Region B finals.
On the boys side, the Eagles fought throughout the game to come back from an early score by Stuarts Draft. With seconds to go in regulation Macson McGuigan fired in Clarke County’s first goal of the night to tie the score at 1-1 and send the game into overtime. Ben Marshall and Connor Shendow each added goal during the overtime period and propelled the boys team to a 3-1 victory. The Eagles will face Goochland in the semifinal round on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at CCHS.
On the girls side, the Lady Eagles took on Stuarts Draft as well and mirrored the boys side taking the game into overtime. Clarke County fought in OT to pull off a one point victory defeating the Cougars 4-3. The Clarke County girls team will advance to the Region B Semi-finals and will also face Altavista at 6:00:00 PM Wednesday at Altavista High School.
