Sunday night the Redskins announced that they had acquired quarterback Donovan McNabb in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. The deal set the Redskins back a second round draft pick in the 2010 draft and either a third- or fourth-round pick in the 2011 draft.
Redskins executive vice president/head coach Mike Shanahan said, “Donovan is an accomplished quarterback who has been a proven winner in the National Football League… and I feel he will be an outstanding addition to the Redskins and our community.”
The Redskins already have a crowded roster for quarterback with last year’s starter Jason Campbell, newcomer Rex Grossman and third-year player Colt Brennan. Now McNabb is in Washington as well. Given McNabbs history of success it would be difficult to imagine him playing in Washington in a backup role.
Good news? Bad news? Who can say at this point but it will certainly make training camp more lively as competition for this key position is heats up.
