Fatality in early morning accident on Route 7 in Loudoun

Commuters on Route 7 may have encountered snarled traffic on the morning of January 14th.   The Leesburg Police Department is investigating a serious accident that occurred on the east bound bypass between W. Market St and S. King St. The accident occurred at about 9:20 a.m that morning. Police believe the victim pulled to the side of Route 7, existed the vehicle, moved to the front of the vehicle, and then stepped into the roadway into the path of dump truck traveling east bound on Route 7.   The victim has been identified as Martha Johnson. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed. Leesburg police are continuing their investigation.

The investigation is continuing into the death of Martha Johnson, 45 years old of Leesburg. The Leesburg Police are requesting information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident while traveling eastbound on the Route 7 Bypass between West Market Street and South King Street yesterday (01-14-10) at approximately 9:20 am to 9:30 am.

    Well, you know, if there is no one to comment and assist this investigation as a witness to the accident, then that must mean that there was no heavy traffic, so therefore the truck could have easily moved into another lane to avoid hitting this woman.

  2. Where this accident occured is coming around a turn I think a dump truck going 55mph speed limit around that turn would have a hard time adjusting to miss anything in it’s way. I hope someone saw something even from a distance and reports it to the police. I am curious as to what the dump trucks report says as to what he/she saw. [Deleted Text] It is scarry to me and close to home.
