Feds Use Bilboard Campaign in Hunt for Winchester Bank Robber

The FBI has launched a multi-state digital billboard campaign to aid in locating and apprehending a suspect responsible for multiple armed robberies in several states the most recent of which occurred in Winchester, Va.

James Louis Whittlesley is wanted for a 10/14/2011 armed robbery of a United Bank in Winchester and has been charged with aggravated bank robbery, in addition to a state charge of attempted capital murder of a police officer.  In addition to the 10/14/2011 armed robbery in Winchester, Whittlesley has also been identified as a suspect in a number of additional armed robberies, including three in central Pennsylvania and one in Delaware.

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Whittlesley, and are urged to call the FBI’s tip-line at 1-800 CALL FBI or 1-800-225-5324 to report any information.

Whittlesley is described as a white male, 5’11” tall, roughly 200 pounds, with gray/black hair and brown eyes.

This is a joint investigation involving the Richmond, Baltimore, and Philadelphia Offices of the FBI; the Winchester Police Department; the Maryland State Police Fugitive Unit; and members of the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Forces in Richmond and Maryland.
