Fire House Gallery Holds Open House Friday

The Clarke art scene heats up at the Fire House Gallery and Shop Friday June 11th when they host an Open House from 5pm to 8pm.   The work of more than fifty local artists will be on display.

Ceramics and jewelry at the Fire House Open House

Think beyond the canvas.   Custom-made jewelry, fabrics, photographs, ceramics, woodcraft and sculpture are featured as well as fine art.   Many pieces have a whimsical theme or a bright palette that compliments the season.   A fanciful birdhouse by Virginia Reuling brings a smile to visitors for the imaginative nature of its design.   Large rural scenes by watercolorist Michalyn Tarantino bring a touch of the countryside into the gallery.   Dig old trucks and tractors?   You might like Tarantino’s work.   Lisa Fisher and Christy Dunkle are two of the well-known artists offering jewelry.   Popular ceramic artist Nancy Bishop has numerous decorative pieces on display.   Her blue and white pieces grace tables at Bon Matin and Midas Touch.

Speaking of displays, gallery assistant Rachel Rodway and board member Kaye Bayliss coordinated the placement of the art in the gallery.   Their sense of complimentary color and shape highlight each item favorably.   Rachel’s eye for design comes naturally as she is an artist herself.

Lillian Ledford takes notes as artist Cathleen Gleason hangs one of her works

Oil painter Cathleen Gleason was hanging her work recently in anticipation of the event.   “It’s a lovely gallery.   I’m very pleased and privileged to participate. It’s a wonderful addition to the town.”   Gleason works with a palette knife on board, creating intimate rural landscapes. Her paintings have been in the juried shows at Art in the Mill.

Gallery assistant Lillian Ledford described the vibe the gallery hopes to offer, “It’s a come and go event.   You’re welcome to wander in, explore, talk to the artists, have a glass of wine, have some light refreshments.   There’s a band playing in the park, the GK Trio, so there will be jazz in the park. We’re just hoping that people will be able to include us in their Friday evening plans, a casual, lovely artistic affair.”

What more is needed to make the Open House a success?   Your attendance is gratefully requested.   It will be a great time to meet the artists and friendly  staff.
