While installing and using child safety seats may appear to be easy enough, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has estimated that close to 3 out of 4 parents do not properly use child restraints … and if you are one of them, that child safety seat may not protect your child the way it should. To address this issue the the NHTSA sponsors CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY (CPS) WEEK. During this week parents and caregivers are urged to verify that their child safety seats are properly installed and correctly used. To do this anyone can visit a child safety seat inspection station. There a certified technician will inspect your child safety seat and show you how to correctly install and use it. The NHTSA offers a website to locate the nearest station www.nhtsa.gov.
In observance of National Seat Check Saturday on September 25th, the Berryville Police will be conducting a FREE Child Safety Seat Event from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Clarke County Joint Government Center Parking Lot. No appointments are necessary. Certified child seat technicians will be on hand to assist with the proper installation of your car seat.
