The Virginia Cooperative Extension and Shenandoah Valley Buy Fresh Buy Local organizations plan to host a networking event for producers and buyers on Monday, February 6, at the George Washington Hotel in Winchester.
The day-long event will offer an opportunity for those who want to sell their crops and products locally, and for those who want to purchase directly from local farmers, to network directly with each other. Participants will learn about opportunities to build and support the local and regional food economy and find out how to participate in emerging institutional and regional markets.
In addition to a networking session, the event will include a talk on the recently published “Virginia Farm to Table” plan by Eric Bendfeldt of Virginia Cooperative Extension, presentations by local farm and food entrepreneurs and business owners, and a farm-to-school panel discussion in the afternoon.
The event is open to producers, chefs, restaurateurs, wholesale buyers, and others interested in growth and networking opportunities in the Shenandoah Valley. There is a $15 registration fee which includes a lunch made with local foods.
Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, please visit http://www.GrowLocalBuyLocal.eventbrite.com or call Francie Kennedy at 540/432-6029 ext. 107. The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the ballroom of the George Washington Hotel (103 East Piccadilly Street, Winchester, VA 22601). Additional “Grow Local, Buy Local” events are planned for January 30 in Harrisonburg and February 27 in Staunton.
