I-66 Gets Additional Lane

Washington, D.C. commuters are welcoming the opening of a two-mile auxiliary lane on I-66 between Fairfax Drive and Sycamore Street in Arlington County.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell announced that the new lane would be open by 7 p.m. this evening.  It is the first of three spot improvements on westbound I-66 designed to reduced congestion in the corridor.

Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10 th ) Wolf worked with former Rep. Tom Davis to get the initial funding for the project.

“This is the first step in a three-part process to keep traffic moving on I-66,” said Wolf, who has been involved in every major transportation project in northern Virginia over the last 30 years. “We need to continue to be innovative in how we approach dealing with congestion in the region and this is a prime example.”
