Kids Voting Participation Update

Responding to interest in the level of participation in Clarke County Kids Voting, Assistant Principal at Johnson-Williams Middle School, Kip Tuttle provided us with the following summary of student participation. Thank you Ms. Tuttle.

Congratulations goes out to all schools for another fantastic round of student voter participation in this fall’s election!!!

We had 435 students participate! This put us at 23% of the division’s student population (September 30 count) participating!!!

Boyce was the overall champ again this year with 32% of their students voting! This means that for 7 years in a row Boyce has held the School with the Highest Voter Participation Banner!! Way to go!

Berryville Primary had 24%, Cooley 17%, J-WMS 17%, and CCHS 9% overall student voter participation.

Boyce’s Mrs. Lee McGuigan had the top participation at her school – and in the division – with 61% of her 5th graders voting!
Berryville Primary’s Ms. Keena Wilt had the top participation at her school with over 47% of her 1st graders voting.
J-WMS’s Mrs. Debbie Christakos had the top participation at her school with 40% of her 6th grade U. S. History I students voting.
Cooley’s Mrs. Kimberly Erickson had the top participation at her school with over 36% of her 5th grader voting.
CCHS’s Ms. Stephanie Suess had the top participation at her school with 32% of her IB History of America – Higher Level Part 1 class voting.

With the coordination of David Ravenscroft, CCHS students acted as precinct volunteers at each of our polling locations! Many thanks to the highschoolers and to Dave for this service!

This year our precincts were again sponsored and manned by several of our wonderful civic organizations: Helping Hands Clarke County, VFW and the Ladies Auxiliary, the Boyce PTO, Nancy Juday and Friends, and the Clarke Lions Club! We certainly couldn’t do this out these folks!!!

Many thanks go out to all who put so much into making it possible for our students to be able to experience democracy in action each year!
Thank you!!
