For the Clarke County Coaches and Players:

Right now, I know it rings hollow to hear you had a great season when you did not achieve your objective. Those that say “It’s just a game, you’ll get over it” probably have never worked for four months for a team goal, become close with teammates and worked as hard as you did. This does hurt, and it will for a while.

But when you examine the benefits of this season, it shows you are unselfish in the best ways. You have set the goal for future players to beat George Mason and anyone else in the way. You are their inspiration to win a state and other titles. If it were not for you, they would have to which to aspire. Athletes are role models.

The joy you extend to family, friends and classmates is immeasureable. You gave fans hope and delight. There are probably a few who watched your season and said, “She is so succussful. Just for a moment, I wish I could be her.”

The great singer/songerwriter Mick Jagger once sang, “You can’t always get what you want….But if you try sometimes…you might find…you get what you need.” Once the heartbreak passes, share they celebration that is this season with those that care for you and think the world of you. You achieved at least that championship.

Thanks to you, Berryville is a great place to be. And the world is a better place with you in it.
