Letter to the Editor – Blocks for Piranhas – Updated

Dear Editor:

The Clarke County Piranhas swim team and families would like to say THANK YOU to this wonderful community! Last summer we weren’t able to host the summer championship meet, in large part due to our hand-made diving blocks. We went to work to raise the necessary funds to replace them.

Clarke Daily News - Opinion & Editorial

We needed nearly $15,000 to purchase the replacement blocks and we weren’t sure we could raise that amount in one summer. But, with the overwhelming generosity of the people in our community, we absolutely were able to overcome this obstacle. The new diving blocks have been installed and we are so thankful, and grateful, for them.

We’ve included a couple of photos of our new blocks.

We are starting off this summer with a bake sale. We will be at the Bank of Clarke County on Main Street, Saturday morning, June 4. We will have pepperoni rolls, brownies, scones and lots of yummy treats. We hope we will see you there so that we may thank you, personally, for your support.

Thank you,

The CC Piranhas Swim Team and families

Editors Note: An earlier version of this letter noted an incorrect date for swim team bake sale. The correct date is Saturday morning, June 4, 2011.

Thanks to the folks in Berryville / Clarke Co. for donating to provide the Piranhas Swim Team the new starting blocks. Moments ago I showed my two sons the pictures and explained to them how blessed they are here in FL, to have a year ’round swimming program., with starting blocks, scoreboards, heated pool etc..
My best to the Berryville swim team!!

I have been blessed to work with swimmers and parents for over 20 years in Clarke County. Last summer was truly a community effort to support our youth. A heart felt thank you goes out to everyone who bought cookies or a homemade pie at the bake sale, bought Joe Corbi’s pizza, pulled into the car wash, or bought a raffle ticket to the Dallas Cowboys- Washington Redskin game.

Please join us for the dedication of the blocks at the first home swim meet of the season to be held on July 2, 2011. The meet will begin at 8:30am.
