Letter to the Editor – Panera Bread Feeds ArborFest Volunteers

By Koy E. Mislowsky

This past weekend the State Arboretum at Blandy Experimental Farm hosted its annual ArborFest event, underwritten by Bartlett Tree Experts.

ArborFest is a two-day plant sale and family fun day complete with food vendors, hayrides and children’s activities.

It takes many volunteers working both Saturday and Sunday to pull off this event.   Panera Bread, for the third year in a row, has supported the Arboretum by donating their delicious bag lunches for our volunteers!   For many of them, lunch is the highlight of the day!   When volunteers sign up to work for the weekend, it is not unusual for many of them to ask, “Is Panera providing lunch for us?”   I am always proud to be able to say, “Yes.”   In turn, Panera has become one of our favorite catering choices!

A heartfelt thanks to Mark Croy, the Neighborhood Marketing Manager and Tonya Cooper, the catering coordinator, as well as to the café staff for making ArborFest so special for our volunteers.   We love working with you and appreciate your support!   You are a true community partner!   THANK YOU PANERA!

  1. I thought it should be noted that Panera also donates day old items to churches in the area for them to give away to needy folks. More companies could do this but they don’t. Whenever Grace Episcopal Church gets the bread they take boxes of it to Mary Hardesty House and the Johnson Williams apartments. There is always plenty and it is good.

Also, I read where they have opened some pilot stores around the country where you
pay what you can, and what is wonderful is that they are not working at a loss.
