LFCC Students Win Regional Forensics Competition

Middletown, VA – Six Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) students participated in the College Forensic Association (CFA) Fall Tournament at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV on October 28 and 29, 2011 and all six placed in various categories of competition.  LFCC’s David Jezierski  (from Berryville), won second place in persuasive speaking, Derek Thomas (from Bluemont) won 2nd in single dramatic interpretation, and Chris Perry won 4th in single dramatic interpretation.  Debbie Baldwin and Derek Thomas placed 2nd in dramatic duo and 4th in improv pairs, while David Jezierski and Kim Jones placed 3rd in improv pairs.  Kim Jones also placed 5th in poetry and Jim Rogers placed 5th in informative speaking.

Other schools participating in the event were Alderson-Broadus College, Bloomsburg University, Fayetteville University, Hampton University, Randolph Macon College, Shepherd University, and Westchester University.  Team coach and Associate Professor of Speech, Andrea Ludwick, stated, “Again, LFCC was the only community college competing, and did well against more experienced teams.  The students’ hard work in preparation for competition definitely showed.”

Members of the team (with their locality of residence) included Debbie Baldwin (Winchester), David Jezierski (Berryville), Kim Jones (Front Royal), Chris Perry (Stephens City), Jim Rogers (Front Royal), and Derek Thomas (Bluemont).  The next competition is November 11-12, 2011 at Morgan State University in Maryland.  The team will host a competition at LFCC on December 2 & 3, 2011.
