Lord Fairfax Community College’s (LFCC) Office of Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education is coordinating the College 4 Kids summer program for rising second through fifth graders July 26 through 30, 2010 on the Middletown Campus.
Participants may choose from new classes, such as:
- American Girl – It’s all about the girls! Learn about world events and history using the American Girl dolls. Act out skits, make crafts and play games related to different periods in time. You may bring a doll, but a doll is not necessary for the class.
- Bugs, Birds and Butterflies – Learning and fun collide in the discovery of insect and bird habitats and food webs. Make a butterfly and bird house and explore the pond for cool and creepy critters.
- Edible Art – Create scrumptious masterpieces such as Turtle bread, candy collage and sand art. These pieces of art are so great you won’t want to eat them and so delicious you’ll want to dig right in!
- Super Science – Get ready for a magical laboratory experience. Make and take home Flubber, a mushroom monster, Silly Putty, gum, Play Dough, bubbling lava blobs, copper coins, glowing slime and more.
The cost of the program is $175 for the week, with discounts if more than one child from the same family attends. The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, providing students the opportunity to participate in four different classes each day. Students will need to bring a bag lunch Monday through Thursday. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided.
A limited number of scholarships are available for families who meet the criteria.
