Local Ministry Helps Families with Newborn Needs

Berryville resident and founder of Red Wagon Ministry Jody Stephenson

by Mary Veilleux

When a young family welcomes a new baby, sometimes the joy is tempered by the reality of the cost of baby items. That’s where The Red Wagon Ministry can be of great service, to help ease the burden by providing diapers and wipes to low-income families.  Founded in 2009 by Berryville resident, Jody Stephenson, The Red Wagon Ministry has been furnishing diapers and wipes to Winchester, Clarke, and Frederick County via CCAP (Congregational Community Action Project) and FISH of Clarke County. In 2010, Red Wagon distributed nearly 90,000 diapers to those in need!

To partner with The Ministry in aiding CCAP or FISH, you can call 540-955-0949 or email Jody at theredwagonministry@gmail.com. Volunteers collect diaper coupons, organize diaper drives, or host red wagons at churches or other locations. The latest church to sponsor a red wagon is Grace Episcopal in Berryville.

To raise money for this effort, a “Cupcake Challenge” will be hosted at the Social Hall at Jim Barnett Park in Winchester on Saturday, March 10 from 2:00-4:00 pm. Bakers may register to bring favorite cupcakes and the public can buy tickets for $10.00 in advance or at the door, to enjoy some tasty treats, as well as help judge the cupcakes. The theme this year is “Nursery Rhymes.”  Additional information is available on the website www.theredwagonministry.com.
