Berryville Main Street’s Fire House Gallery & Shop, located in downtown Berryville, is sponsoring a youth photography contest, called “MY Downtown Berryville.” The competition begins September 25, 2010, and runs until November 1, 2010. Any Clarke County resident who is 18 or younger is encouraged to participate by submitting photography that demonstrates his or her personal connections to Downtown Berryville, the heart of the community.
“We’re so excited to host this competition,” says Gallery Manager Lillian Ledford. “Our goal is to celebrate the very personal associations the county’s younger generation has with our downtown. Maybe it’s spending time in Rose Hill Park with friends. Maybe it’s going to the Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings or attending a special town event. We’re eager to see the types of photos that are submitted.”
The competition’s entry fee is $10, which allows a photographer to submit as many as three photographs, either print or digital. Print photos must be 8 x 10 inches, unframed, and unmounted. Digital photos must be jpg or in jpeg format. The photographs must have been taken during the 2010 calendar year. With each photo, the applicant also must submit a brief artist’s statement explaining how the image connects the photographer to downtown Berryville.
Contestants may use their own cameras. However, the $10 entry fee includes a disposable camera available for pick up at the Fire House Gallery & Shop.
Photographs will be accepted electronically, via mail, or in person at the gallery from September 25 to November 1, 2010. No photographs will be accepted after November 1. The winning photographs will be displayed at the Fire House Gallery & Shop, unveiled November 19 at an Artists’ Reception at the gallery.
