New School Construction Underway

With the public ground breaking ceremony now just a “warm” and fleeting memory, Shockey and Sons Construction wasted no time getting to work at the site of the new school. ¬†As many as five heavy earth moving machines could be seen on the site at mid-day. Also present are large piles of yet-to-be buried water line pipe.

Any community member present at the ground breaking ceremony noticed that the dry soil at the construction site has a consistency more comparable to flour than to dirt. ¬†Sunday’s storms added little moisture to the soil.

Today’s windy conditions appeared to push the plumes of dust created by earth moving operations toward homes in the Battlefield Estates development, directly east of the construction site.

The National Weather Service predicts continued dry conditions for the next two days with an increased chance of showers on Wednesday.

  1. What is the projected completion date?

  2. Right Winger says:

    August 2012

  3. Clarke County Caucasian says:

Given the favorable water rates in Berryville for commercial water haulers it would seem like a no-brainer for Shockey to buy some cheap water and wet-down the dust. The Town might even throw out an olive branch to the community by waiving payment for the water since it’s a voluntary reporting system anyway.

    • The Shocker says:

We could all discuss this in the new auditorium once it is built….oh wait, we won’t all fit. Either will the students. Brilliant.

      • charlie dick says:

If “Brilliant” is the same as penny-wise/pound foolish, you are correct. Alas I think Santayana got it sorta right…

Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

I’m happy for the students who will celebrate the newness of a new “nest,” but I suspect that many will repeat the experience from previous building effort. The building is smaller than the humanity it will house.

        Sad, really …

  4. So why was the mechainal heat/ac not given to the low bider. But to one of Schockeys subs?
