Obituary for Andrew C. Sloane “Tate”

Andrew “Tate” Cornelius Sloane, 66, of Stephens City, Virginia, died Saturday, February 18, 2012 in the Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Sloane was born July 10, 1945 in Clarke County, Virginia, the son of James Edward Sloane, Sr. and Roseanna Carey Sloane.

He was a bookkeeper for Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center.

Surviving are five sisters, Katherine Polston of Winchester, VA, Virginia Smith and her husband, Rev. Edward Smith of Temple Hills, MD, Patricia Williams and her husband, Rev. Ralph Williams of Quicksburg, VA, Gail Smith and her husband, Harold of Winchester, VA, and Betty Roberts of Stephens City, VA; two brothers, James E. Sloane, Jr. and his wife, Martha of Boyce, VA, and Randolph Sloane and his wife, Brenda A. of Winchester, VA; and a sister-in-law, Mary L. Sloane of Berryville, VA.

A sister, Frances Elizabeth Roberts, and a brother, Louis Randolph Sloane preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A. M. Monday, February 27, 2012 at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville, with Rev. Ralph Williams, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, White Post, VA.

Pallbearers will be John Tigney, Isaac Yates, Johnny Freeman, Glenn Polston, Nathaniel Morgan and Lawrence Summers. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, Arthur Summers, Keith Summers, William Polston, Jerome Polston, Vincent Smith, Melvin Sloane, Kendall Sloane, Bryan Sloane, Ralph Williams, Jr., Deon Roberts, Chester Roberts, Jr., Henry Sloane and Randolph Jackson.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P. M. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
