Obituary for Barbara E. Mabrey

Barbara Elizabeth Mabrey, 86, of Stephenson, Virginia, died Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center in Winchester, Virginia.

Mrs. Mabrey was born November 24, 1923 in Binghamton, New York, the daughter of Clifford and Cora Harris.

She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri with an Associate’s Degree in Theatre; she then went on to graduate in California with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre from Pasadena Playhouse College of Theatric Arts in Pasadena, California with a bachelor degree in Theatre Arts.

Mrs. Mabrey had many accomplishments in Radio and Television. She was a part of WNBF and WNEW of New York and also WTOP, WRC, and WTTG of Washington, DC. She was a producer on the Mark Evans Show. In the 1960’s she was a part of Claster T.V. Enterprises where she produced the popular children’s show, Romper Room and later became “Ms. Barbara” of that program for four years. In the late 60’s she was a T. V. Consultant for the U. S. Public

Health Service in Bethesda, Maryland, where she was responsible for producing Medical Series Pilot Scripts for Schools, Hospitals, and Clinics.

She married the late T. Layton Mabrey on October 20, 1967.

She is survived by her two step-sons, Craig Mabrey and his wife, Kristina of Germany and Kenan Mabrey of Delaware; two grandchildren; her friend and caregiver, Donna Underwood of Bluemont, VA; Dr. Valarie Campbell and all the staff at Blue Ridge Veterinary Association; and her Summer friends from her home in Sandy Pond, NY.

Interment will be held at a later date in New York.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Pam Banks of the Ministering Angels of Berryville and the staff of Blue Ridge Hospice for their care and comfort provided to her in her last few months of life.
