Obituary for Charles E. Payne

On August 25th, Charles (Charlie/Gene) Eugene Payne, 76 of Stephenson, Virginia, passed away during a rehabilitation stay at the Golden Living- Rose Hill Center in Berryville.

Mr. Payne was born May 22, 1935 in Frog Town, Virginia, the son of the late Tyson and Margaret Payne.

He was a retired Long Haul Truck Driver. He began his driving career at Crider & Shockey driving a cement truck and soon purchased his own Rig. He travelled all over the United States eventually selling his truck and hauling for companies such as Puffinburger Trucking and Johns Manville and finishing his career with Simbeck, Inc.

He served as a Private in the U. S. Marines during the Korean War where he earned the Good Conduct Medal.

He was a long time member of the Winchester Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 824, Berryville Moose Lodge and American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (Tippy) Payne and a sister Della Heflin.

Mr. Payne is survived by a son Robert Tyson Payne of Bluemont, VA, a sister Margaret Rossi and her husband David of Maynard, MA and a brother Oliver Payne and his wife Ruth of Stephenson, VA. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be private.
