Charles Henry Whirley, 77, of Winchester, Virginia, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Whirley was born November 22, 1934 in Summit Point, West Virginia, the son of the late Henry David Whirley and Velma P. Sowers Whirley.
He retired as a plant manager for Shenandoah Apple in Winchester.
He served in the U. S. Army from 1957 – 1959. He was called into active duty from 1961-1962.
He was a member of Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church in Berryville.
Surviving with his wife, Polly Boyd Whirley are two sons, Charles R. Whirley and his wife, Debra, of Berryville, VA and James C. Whirley and his wife, Kristin, of Winchester, VA; five grandsons, Chad R. Whirley, Joshua R. Whirley, Evan R. Whirley, Tyler O. Whirley and James P. Whirley.
Four brothers, William Whirley, Carroll Whirley, Robert Whirley, and Allen Whirley and two sisters, Ann Whirley Starkey and Helen Whirley Sutphin, all preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A. M. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville with Rev. Ken Patrick officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.
Pallbearers will be Chad Whirley, Joshua Whirley, Evan Whirley, Tyler Whirley, Patrick Whirley and Joe Starkey. Honorary pallbearers will be James Allder, Bill Dawson, J. D. Dawson, Garland Owens, Jim Sipe, Jr., Gus Martin, and Dr. Gayland Hethcoat.
The family will receive friends 7:00 – 9:00 P. M. Friday evening at the funeral home.
