Obituary for Edna Mae Thuss (nee Bittner)

Thuss pictureTHUSS, Edna Mae (nee Bittner) passed away at the age of 93 on April 16, 2010 in Berryville, Virginia.   Predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Fred W. and their daughter Marilyn, she is survived by her son David and wife Judy (AL); son Richard and wife Marilyn (VA); daughter Joan and husband Bruce (FL); and nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Born in Philadelphia on March 13, 1917, she attended high school and trade school and later worked for Sears Roebuck & Co.   After her marriage to Fred in 1941, and the births of her four children, each child only a little more than a year apart in age, she was a homemaker.

Edna always found time for her passions: her garden and playing the piano.   Probably one of the last great letter writers, she was faithful in correspondence with both family and friends.   She was also an avid reader and loved discussions on thoughts and ideas culled from her readings.   She was “a good Christian” and instilled those attributes in her children.   She was always a lady, and always a friend.

A brief service will be held at the Robert Mannal Funeral Home at 6925 Frankford Ave. in Philadelphia, PA on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 9:00 A. M., followed by interment at North Cedar Hill Cemetery beside her late husband.   Family and friends may join with us to celebrate her life.
