On Saturday, February 25, 2012, Everett Lee Lemley, Jr. (fondly known as “Junior”), of Berryville, Virginia, was reunited with his beloved wife, Edith Agnes Keenan Lemley. Everett was the loving father of Rich (Sherry), Ron (Sandy), Theresa (Terence), Michael (Betty), and John (Dee) Lemley. He was the grandfather of James, Christina, and Erik Lemley; Jason, and Sean Lemley; Micaela and Justin Carrasco; Matthew and Joseph (JP) Lemley; Bryan and Jacob Lemley, and great grandfather of Brooks and Charles Lemley.
Everett is also survived by his brother, Bob (Jane) Lemley; brother-in-law Vincent (Bernadette) Keenan; sisters-in-law, Mary Lemley and Linda Lemley; and brother-in-law Bud Johnson (Vicki); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Everett was the son of the late Everett Lee Lemley Sr. and Grace Mildred Lemley, and brother of the late Irene Coombs, Mildred Robey, Herbert Lemley and Norman Lemley. He was born in Morgantown, WV in 1927; served in the US Army overseas and married Edith in 1949. His highly successful federal career, spanning more than 30 years, began with the Public Health Service and Social Security Administration in Baltimore. He then went on to the Department of the Interior in Atlanta, and the Federal Pollution Control Administration in Charlottesville. He ended his career at the US Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC. Everett retired as a Senior Administrative Official in 1979 and then moved to Berryville with Edith.
Everett was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. A talented singer and musician, he was well known for his robust rendition of “Frankie and Johnny”. Besides country music, Everett loved raising horses. In retirement, he and Edith raised thoroughbreds at their farm, Chilly Hollow Stables, in Berryville. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Godfrey House for the care, compassion and kindness shown to Everett during his residence there. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 P. M. Tuesday evening at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville. A funeral service will be held 10:30 A. M. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at St. Bridget’s Chapel in the Field, Berryville with Rev. Michael Dobbins officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.
