Grady C. Luffman, of Bristol, TN, joined the Church triumphant on Thursday, February 23, 2012.
Grady was born in Roaring River, NC, on October 20, 1922, one of four children born to Della Mae Waddell and W. C. “Clarence” Luffman. In addition to his parents,
Grady was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Dawn; his brother, Wallace; and his sister Charlotte.
Grady leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Jane Pennewell Luffman of Bristol, TN; daughter, Rebecca (and husband Robert C.) Tate, of Lithonia, GA; daughter, Beth (and husband Pat) Flannagan of Bristol, TN; son, Grady C. Luffman, Jr., of Fredericksburg, VA; and daughter, Donna Luffman, of Bristol, TN. Also surviving are his six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sister, Mabel L. Tilghman of Salisbury, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.
Grady proudly served in the US Army during WWII as a member of the “Railsplitters,” 334th Infantry Division, participating in the Ardennes campaign and “Battle of the Bulge” during the winter of 1944 for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. The Boy Scouts of America awarded Grady the Order of the Arrow; he was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Treadwell Lodge of Berryville, VA.
A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The committal service and inurnment at conducted at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday at the National Cemetery at Mountain Home, TN. Friends may visit with the family at the home of Beth and Pat Flannagan from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., on Sunday, February 26, 2012.
