James Henry Sonnabend, 87, of Summit Point, West Virginia, died Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Sonnabend was born July 9, 1925 in Washington, DC, the son of Henry and Elsie Hedrick Sonnabend.
He retired from Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority where he was a supervisor in the bus department.
He served in the U. S. Navy and was a Veteran of WWII and Korean War.
He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winchester, Virginia and the American Legion Post 41, Berryville, Virginia.
He married Cheryl Louise Sonnabend on April 28, 1964 in Germantown, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Deborah Marie Efantis and her husband, Efthemeos of New Market, MD and Tamara Jean Bowman of Chesapeake, VA; three sons, Donald Steven Marshall of Gaithersburg, MD, Douglas Wayne Marshall and his wife, Diana of Germantown, MD and Bryan Keith Marshall and his wife, Lisa of Monrovia, MD; a sister, Barbara Schroder of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
A daughter, Carolyn Louise Maltby, a brother, Frank Sonnabend and two sisters, Josephine Klein and Marjorie Schlie preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 A. M. Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winchester, VA with Pastor James H. Utt and Pastor Martha Miller Sims officiating. The service will conclude military honors provided by Berryville VFW Post 9760 at Grace Lutheran Memorial Gardens located at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, VA.
