James Ruben Huffman, 74, of Stephens City, VA, a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2010.
Jim was born April 30, 1936 in Luray, VA, the son of Lloyd and Louise Huffman.
He was a graduate of Luray High School; he worked as a farmer before entering and retiring from the Virginia State Police in 1996 after 31 years of service.
His passions were family, church, gardening, and woodworking.
He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Stephens City, VA where he was a trustee and served as a council member and various other leadership roles.
He is survived by his loving wife Nancy Garrison Huffman whom he married August 8, 1959.
In addition to his wife of 51 years he is survived by three children, James R. Huffman II and wife, Kim of Winchester, Kimberly N. McCarty and husband, Mike of Seven Lakes, NC, and Gregory A. Huffman and wife, Barbara of Middletown; four grandsons, Jimmy Huffman of Strasburg, Justin and Cory Miller of Middletown, and Tyler McCarty of Seven Lakes, NC; a granddaughter, Brittany Huffman of Winchester; a great grandson, Merrill Miller of Middletown; and four sisters, Betty Long and husband, Bud of Harrisonburg, Mary Hoefling and husband Al of Harrisonburg, Barbara Moyer of Luray, and Sharon Dovel and husband, Warren of Penn Laird, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Louise Huffman, brother, Earl “Jack” Huffman, a sister-in-law, Irene Huffman and a brother-in-law, Allan Moyer.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:30 P. M, Monday, July 26, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 810 Fairfax Pike, Stephens City, VA.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 A. M. Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church.
The Virginia State Police Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
