Obituary for James R. Livengood

James Ray Livengood, 87, of Berryville, Virginia, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Livengood was born February 12, 1925 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of John S. and Fannie Lillard Livengood.

He worked for Smalley Package Co. for 46 ½ years.

He served as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Corps for 3 years while stationed in India.

He was a faithful member of Burnt Factory United Methodist Church where he was an active leader in many roles. Jim was a member of the Clarke County Lions Club for 63 years, where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 2007. He was also active in the American Legion Post 41. Additionally, he was responsible for forming a school booster club at Clarke County High School and financing lights for the football stadium. For his efforts he was recognized as Clarke County Man of the Year in 1956.

He married Betty Duvall Livengood on August 17, 1946 at her home in Winchester, Virginia.

Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Jackie Livengood of Winchester, VA, Pamela L. Eddy and her husband, Allan of Sterling, VA and Anne L. Perrault and her husband, Tim of Winchester, VA; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

A brother, Johnny Livengood and two sisters, Frances L. Duvall and Nealy L. Hockman preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A. M. Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville with Pastor Steve Melester officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

Pallbearers will be Tom Duvall, Dick Duvall, Mark Duvall, Greg Duvall, Perry Duvall, Don Duvall, Chuck Duvall, Bill Swimley and Jerry Swimley. Honorary pallbearers will be Burnt Factory United Methodist Men.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
