James William “Bill” Grubbs, 86, of Boyce, Virginia, died Friday, February 12, 2010 in the Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Grubbs was born December 21, 1923 in Clarke County, Virginia, the son of James Samuel and Mary Louise Tavenner Grubbs.
He worked as a warehouse clerk for Dulles International Airport and was a dispatcher for Clarke County Central Alarm.
He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1942 – 1945 as a communications specialist.
He was a member of Boyce Volunteer Fire Company.
He married Shirley Waugh Grubbs on July 9, 1949 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, William D. Grubbs of Boyce, VA and P. Dean Grubbs of Boyce, VA; 2 sisters, Marjorie Michael of Winchester, VA and June Poston and her husband, Frank of Winchester, VA; a brother, Donald Grubbs of Winchester, VA; a granddaughter, Laura A. Hovermale of Los Angeles, CA; 3 nephews and 2 nieces.
A daughter, Pamela Grubbs Hovermale, a sister, Frances Grubbs, and a brother, Edward Grubbs preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P. M., Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel in Berryville with Rev. Adam Sowder officiating and Military Honors by the Clarke County Honor Guard. Burial will be private.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Buckley, Lee Coffelt, Bryan Conrad, Ralph Shiley, Jim Singhas, and Donald Whitacre. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Boyce Volunteer Fire Company.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 A. M. – 1:00 P. M. Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
