Joe M. Renforth, 90, formerly of Parkersburg, died Thursday, January 21, 2010. Mr. Renforth was born September 14, 1919, in Akron, Ohio, and was the son of the late Joseph C. Renforth and Jesse Mae Stuart Renforth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Tona Jeanne Renforth Nutter.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Audrey Jane Morris Renforth of Winchester, VA; daughter Tona Lee Renforth Bays of Berryville, VA; daughter Sheila Kay Renforth Stephens and husband Steve Stephens of Berryville, VA; son Joseph William Renforth and wife Sue Renforth of Washington, WV; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Eula Morris Hardman and husband Charles of Marietta, OH; 2 nieces; three nephews; three great-nieces; and one great-nephew.
Mr. Renforth was a member of the United States Army Air Corps in WWII and the United States Air Force in the Korean Conflict. He was a former policeman in Parkersburg, and retired as an insurance salesman with S. Byrl Ross Insurance. Mr. Renforth was a Mason and a Shriner.
He was an active athlete for most of his life, playing basketball in school and for service teams, and later on a semi-pro team in Parkersburg. He was a basketball and football referee for years in and around Parkersburg, Wood County, and surrounding counties in West Virginia. He also played handball for years.
After retiring to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Mr. Renforth and his wife moved to Winchester, Virginia, to be near family.
