Obituary for Laura Marie Drury

Laura Marie Drury, (86) 1923-2010.

Laura was born on November 3, in Rye, N.Y. to Eleanor Von Erden Orr Drury and Percy Richardson Drury.

The family moved to Berryville, Virginia when she was a child and she attended the Berryville schools, graduating in 1941. Her first marriage to James Edward Owens, Sr. was held at Grace Episcopal Church in Berryville, Va. They had two children, James E. Owens, Jr. (Anne), and Karen Marie Owens (Mallory Harling) now living in Idaho.   Laura became a world traveler as an Army wife and lived in many places. She divorced in 1954, married Muzaffer Bingol from Turkey, and spent several years living in Turkey before settling in the Washington D.C. area. They had two children during their marriage, Cemile Turkan Bingol (Richard Fausnaught) Leesburg, Va. and Deniz Tekin Bingol (Yasuko Makino) now living in Japan. In 1983, she moved to Fort Collins, Co. to care for Karen’s four children. While there, she married and divorced Joseph Stern. Then in 1998, she moved to Leesburg, Va. to be close to Cemile, where she lived until her death on October 20, 2010.

She is survived by Jim’s children, Tim Owens, Scott Owens, Dr. Alex Owens and Cheri Owens Weeks, by Karen’s children, Danielle Cummings, Michelle Roberts, Michael Hefferon, and Ellie Fox, by Cemile’s son Jared Fausnaught, and by ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger sister Terry Carter from Warren County

She was preceded in death by her brothers Henry (Bud) and Fred Drury, her sisters Barbara Chapman and Josephine Ramsburg, and her son James E. Owens, Jr.

The job she enjoyed most was caring for horses at Green Valley Farm near Valley Forge Park. There she managed a 200-head horse farm that offered boarding and riding lessons. In 1982, she received her realtor’s license and worked for realty agency for several years in Newport News, Va. In Ft. Collins, Colorado, she worked as a home health care giver and later in sales and distribution for the Coloradoan, a local newspaper.

Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, Va. October 29, 2010 with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 at Grace Episcopal Church, Berryville and reception afterwards at the parish hall.
