Obituary for Linda F. McClaughry

Linda Faye McClaughry, 89, of Bluemont, Virginia, died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Leesburg, Virginia.

Born Linda Faye Osborne on March 27, 1922 in Grayson County, North Carolina, she was the oldest of nine children. Her father, Frank Jesse Osborne, a farmer, moved his family to Sterling, Virginia where he planned to buy a farm. Unfortunately, he died of pneumonia in his 40’s, leaving her mother, Zollie the former Zollie Frances Reeves, with the children to raise.

Faye moved to Horse Shoe Curve, Clarke County in 1946 after her husband, Robert M. McClaughry was discharged from the Navy. At that time, Horse Shoe Curve was an Esso Service Station but later became a restaurant. Faye worked in the background preparing soups and snacks for the restaurant. Her specialty was her chili.

She sold the restaurant to her granddaughter, Tracee and her husband, Jim Wink but Faye continued to live there with her beloved dog, Frannie who was adopted from the Clarke County Shelter.

Faye loved flowers and people would drive by just to see her latest beautification projects. She planted flowers wherever she could find an empty space.   She, one stone at a time built all the stone walls on the property.   Some stones were so large that they were considered boulders and had to be rolled.

When Faye was 68 years, she took her first plane ride, flying to Germany with her family in 1988.

She was an avid NASCAR fan and her favorite driver was the late Dale Earnhardt.   She collected everything with his name on it.

Faye loved animals. She always had a dog by her side.   Faye was an outstanding seamstress.   She loved to embroider on her granddaughter’s jeans and shirts.

She was a wonderful homemaker who loved to prepare family dinners and create family traditions as well as host family gatherings.   She will be greatly missed.
