Mr. Sloane was born August 21, 1935 in Stone Bridge, Virginia, the son of James Edward Sloane, Sr. and Roseanna Carey Sloane.
He was a retired salesman with Duncan Bros. Tire Company.
He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served as Trustee and Deacon and served as president of the Men’s Choir. He was also a member of the 300 Men’s Club, Winchester Trollers Club, White Post Van Dykes where he played as a pitcher and catcher, and Johnson Williams School Reunion Committee. He was an avid fan of the Winchester Royals, Washington Redskins, and Baltimore Orioles.
He married Mary Louise Morris Sloane on November 30, 1991 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Monique Downing and her husband, Shawn of Martinsburg, WV and Lisa Alexander and her husband, Kevin Patten of Berryville, VA; five sisters, Katherine Polston of Winchester, VA, Virginia Smith and her husband, Rev. Edward Smith of Temple Hills, MD, Patricia Williams and her husband, Rev. Ralph Williams of Quicksburg, VA, Gail Smith and her husband, Harold of Winchester, VA, and Betty Roberts of Stephens City, VA; three brothers, James E. Sloane, Jr. and his wife, Martha of Boyce, VA, Andrew C. Sloane of Stephens City, VA, and Randolph Sloane and his wife, Brenda A. of Winchester, VA; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A sister, Frances Elizabeth Roberts, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A. M. Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville with Rev. Raymond H. Morton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, White Post, VA.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Sloane, Arthur Summers, Ralph Williams, Jr., Deon Roberts, Vincent Smith, William Poston, Henry Sloane, and Melvin Sloane. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Walker, William Mason, John Finachman, Skeeter Knee, Shepard Harris, Charlie Cooper, Anthony Morris, Carton Miles, Doug Payton, Harvey Hughes, Bobbie Arnoux, Mike Keesling, Sam McCleland, Major Warner, Louis Banks, Andrew Young, Lawrence Wilson and Stuff Thomas.
The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 P. M. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
